Turnagain Arm is just south of Anchorage and boasts the 2nd strongest tide in the world. Fishing, hiking, climbing, and sightseeing opportunities abound along this stretch of highway.
An hour and a half south from our house is Portage Glacier, a beautiful blue glacier nestled in a fertile valley. At the visitor's center, you can learn about the glacier's retreat, and even schedule a cruise to travel to the glacier's face.
Tony Knowles Coastal Trail
The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail is an 11 mile trail that hugs the coast as it travels from downtown Anchorage to Kincaid Park (the city's largest park). The trail is used for walking, running, biking, rollerblading, and skiing.
